Teide in a small group: which tour from Tenerife is worth it?
Updated October 12, 2026 · 5 min read
For most people: the six-hour small-group tour to Masca, Teide National Park and a sunset viewpoint, at €67 per person with 4.9 stars from 231 reviews – Masca, Teide National Park & Sunset – Small group. If the night sky is the point: the Teide Sunset & Stargazing Small-Group Minivan Tour at €40, with telescopes. Cheapest: the small-group stargazing walk at €26, which has no telescope at all.
The catch is that the first one is not a stargazing tour. It ends at the sunset. The two cheaper ones are the only ones where you see stars.
The three side by side
| Tour | Duration | From | Rating | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Masca, Teide National Park & Sunset – Small group | 6 hours | €67 per person | 4.9 (231) | landscape, a village and a sunset, without a coach |
| Teide Sunset & Stargazing Small-Group Minivan Tour | 3 hours (3 – 4.5 on the booking page) | €40 per person | 4.5 (28) | telescopes and a pickup in the south |
| Teide National Park: Small group stargazing walk | 2 hours (2 – 6 on the booking page) | €26 per person | 4.9 (35) | a guided night walk when you already have a way up |
What “small group” means on each
The Masca tour is capped at eight people according to the booking page. The minivan tour takes at most eight passengers per van and at most two vans, so an evening can reach sixteen. The walk is the loosest: the operator says regular dates gather 10 to 20 people on average. Eight, up to sixteen and ten to twenty are all “small” next to a coach, but they are different evenings.
Masca, Teide and a sunset
The itinerary on the booking page is a pickup in Arona, an hour on foot in Masca, an hour at the rock formations of Roques de García, then an hour at a sunset viewpoint above the clouds, with van rides between. Water is included; English and Spanish are offered. One reviewer picked it because they wanted neither a big bus nor a buggy tour – that is the buyer it fits. The booking page does not describe a stargazing session, so do not book it for the Milky Way.
It is also not the Masca gorge: you spend about an hour in the village. If the gorge is what you want, read Masca village without the gorge first.

The minivan with telescopes
Tenerife Stars collects guests from 20 listed hotels and meeting points in the south – only those; pickup elsewhere is not included. The programme: a snack pack at the rock formations, a short optional hike on uneven ground, sunset above the clouds, then stars through professional telescopes, with help setting up a smartphone for night photos and a souvenir picture. Dinner is not included, and the tour is in English only.
Read the “not suitable for” list before booking: children under 6, people with back or heart problems, wheelchair users, people prone to altitude sickness and people over 80. The 4.5 rating is the lowest of the three and rests on only 28 reviews. One reviewer describes being told on the day that the evening was cancelled for cloud and being offered the next one – a sensible policy, but plan a spare night.

The €26 night walk
The operator is blunt: “This is not a telescope session.” It is a guided walk of 2 to 3 km from the Roques de García area, with lanterns and a laser pointer for the constellations, led by a certified guide who is also an astrophysicist. You meet at the Parador de Las Cañadas, around 2,000 metres up, so bring your own transport – a rental car works – or choose the transfer option, with a north-coast pickup only on Wednesdays and Fridays.
The booking page lists it as not suitable for children under 8 and notes it may not suit children up to 9. The operator quotes 0 to 4 °C from October to March and 10 to 15 °C from April to September at that height. If the operator cancels for weather, you get a full refund.

Which one, then?
- Want one outing that shows you Masca, the park and a sunset? The six-hour tour. It costs more because you get a day.
- Want stars through a telescope and live in the south? The minivan – if the 28 reviews and the 4.5 are enough for you.
- Want to look up and already have a car? The walk, but expect no instruments.
- Want the standard stargazing tours without a group cap? Compare them in Teide stargazing from €40; for dinner included, see Teide stargazing with dinner.
My pick for most visitors: the Masca, Teide and sunset small-group tour. It has by far the best-documented record of the three, and it is the only one that gives you a village and a landscape as well as a sky. All the Teide options are on the Mount Teide tours page.
