Los Gigantes: the two-hour whale-watching trip with a swim stop

Updated September 10, 2026 · 6 min read

Boat trip along the cliffs of Los Gigantes

On the two-hour whale-watching trip from Los Gigantes, the coast is a second reason to come along. You are not just looking for animals off Tenerife; you also want to see the rock faces from the water. Offer 603483 costs from €28 in the listings dated 10 September 2026 and has 4.7 stars from 5,427 reviews. That makes it one of the island’s short boat trips with a strong review record.

The key question is where you are starting from. If you are staying in or near Los Gigantes, the departure fits into a short outing. From a more distant holiday resort, add the journey to the harbour before treating the trip as a two-hour activity.

Masca Express does not automatically mean the pirate ship

The booking page for this offer names Flipper Uno as the operator and Masca Express in the itinerary. That is an important distinction: the company name does not mean every booking takes place on the well-known pirate ship.

The Flipper Uno offer overview also lists Masca Express as a two-hour trip. If a photo has led you to expect a particular boat or specific facilities, have the vessel’s name confirmed for your date. Sharing a seller does not make different ships an identical offer.

This applies especially to extras children spot in pictures. A slide, a rope or a particularly large sun deck should not become an assumed part of the booking. Ask about it using the specific trip link, not just the name Flipper Uno.

What fits into two hours

The published itinerary combines searching for whales and dolphins with a trip along the cliffs and a swim stop. Masca, Barranco Seco and Juan López are named as possible bays. This is a selection of potential stops, not a promise to visit all three.

I would therefore picture the day as a short round trip on which the crew adapts the programme to the situation on the water. If you expect plenty of swimming time, ask about its planned duration before buying. Wildlife watching, the coastal trip and the return journey all share the same time frame.

A tightly scheduled plan cannot force a wildlife encounter. Keep your camera handy, but do not spend the entire trip looking at the screen. The moment for a particular photo may be brief; the landscape, however, remains a reason to take the trip even if sightings disappoint.

What €28 covers – and what remains open

According to the booking page, the trip includes the boat ride and a cold drink. Do not assume food is included based on the price. For two people, the stored starting prices amount to €56 before transport and food. This does not establish a current children’s price.

When comparing, distinguish this offer from the other two-hour trip, “Whale or Dolphin Watching and Swimming in Masca”. The latter has number 819446, is listed at €25.20 and is a separate product. A €2.80 price difference does not yet tell you which trip is better for your date.

First compare departure time, the actual vessel and the meeting point. With two similarly named boat trips, these are the details that make a difference at the harbour. The general addition “swimming” says nothing about how you enter the water or how long the stop lasts.

The time before departure is part of the outing

GetYourGuide gives the Flipper Uno office on the right at the harbour entrance as the meeting point. The operator requires arrival there 30 minutes before the start and even recommends allowing an hour at the harbour because of traffic and finding parking. Plan this time in addition to the two hours at sea.

If your accommodation is not right by the harbour, first look up the transport connection and then the cheapest departure. A rushed journey there can make the whole trip hectic. When driving, “arrived at the harbour” does not yet mean you have parked and are standing at the correct desk.

On the way back, I would leave some breathing room before the next reservation. Lunch nearby can round off the day; another firmly booked trip immediately afterwards creates unnecessary time pressure. Other coastal offers are under Los Gigantes boat trips.

Masca from the sea is not a Masca hike

The bay in the trip’s name can easily create the wrong impression. A boat trip with a swim stop does not automatically provide access to the gorge, a landing ashore or a transport ticket for a hike. Do not plan any of these extra steps unless they are explicitly included in your booking.

If you specifically want to go to Masca for hiking, you must choose an offer designed for that and check its access requirements separately. For the whale-watching trip, it is enough to ask whether seeing the coast from the boat is the experience you want. The island overview places the west in the context of the other excursion areas.

With children: short, but you cannot leave whenever you want

Two hours is shorter than the five-hour coastal trip from Costa Adeje. You still cannot simply get off after half an hour. For a child who is already frightened on the jetty, a paid booking is not a good reason to persuade them to come along.

Operators set different age limits; the relevant information is on the respective booking page or must be requested there. Also clarify shade, toilets and life jackets in children’s sizes for this vessel. None of these facilities can be inferred from the short duration. We discuss age questions on boat trips in more detail in the family section.

Anyone prone to seasickness should discuss personal preparation with a pharmacist or doctor. The phrase “relaxing cruise” on a sales page says nothing about sea conditions on the day of travel.

When another harbour makes more sense

If you are staying in Los Cristianos and mainly want to see whales, first compare the short trips there, such as the Travelin’ Lady. The extra journey to Los Gigantes is more worthwhile if you specifically want to see the cliffs too.

Finally, before buying, ask about the boat being used and the swim stop for your departure. With a concrete answer, it is much easier to distinguish the similarly named offers under whale watching.
