Is Masca worth visiting, and which Tenerife tour makes sense?
Updated October 19, 2026 · 5 min read
Masca is worth visiting if you want Tenerife’s most dramatic mountain scenery, but only after deciding which Masca you mean. For most first-time visitors, the Teide, Masca, Icod and Garachico tour is the useful answer: €58 buys nine hours and joins the village to three major island stops. Choose the €25.20 Los Gigantes boat only for Masca Bay from the sea. Walkers get a more concentrated landscape experience on the €89 guided hike above Masca, while the €66.50 small-group trip suits travellers who value volcanic pools and a picnic.
Which version of Masca is worth your day?
| Tour | Duration | From | Rating | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Whale or Dolphin Tour and Swim in Masca | 2 hours | €25.20 | 4.7 (3,710) | Masca Bay and Los Gigantes cliffs |
| Teide, Masca, Icod & Garachico Tour | 9 hours | €58 | 4.6 (2,893) | a broad first look at Tenerife |
| Masca, Los Gigantes & Natural Pools + Picnic | 5 hours | €66.50 | 4.6 (393) | a smaller group and swimming |
| Hike Above Masca in Enchanted Forest with Pick-up | 5 hours | €89 | 4.9 (458) | guided walking and laurel forest |
Worth it for a first island visit
The nine-hour circuit earns its place by solving transport rather than by giving Masca the whole day. It moves through Teide National Park, Masca, Icod de los Vinos and Garachico, so the village becomes one strong contrast between volcanic plateau and north-coast towns. That is excellent value for a newcomer with limited days. It is a poor choice for someone who wants a slow lunch, long village wander or the famous gorge hike.

Worth it from the water
The two-hour departure from Los Gigantes looks for whales or dolphins, passes the giant cliffs and adds a swim in Masca Bay. Its low price is attractive, but the boat does not reach Masca village. Book it for marine wildlife and the bay below the ravine; do not book it because you expect mountain streets or a land viewpoint.
When paying more makes sense
The five-hour small-group outing combines Masca, Los Gigantes and volcanic pools, with pickup from named resorts and a picnic. Its premium over the island circuit makes sense when swimming and a tighter north-west itinerary matter more than Teide. The guided hike costs most because the activity is walking through laurel forest above the valley, with views towards Masca and Teide, hotel transfers from southern Tenerife and a nature picnic. It is not the gorge descent.

Masca is not worth a long transfer merely to tick off a name, and travellers uncomfortable with winding mountain itineraries should choose the sea view instead. For most newcomers, book the Teide, Masca, Icod and Garachico tour; it gives the landscape enough context to justify the day.
