What does the Drago Milenario ticket in Icod actually include?
Updated October 10, 2026 · 5 min read
Pay for Parque del Drago if you want more than the familiar view of the tree from the old town. Admission currently starts at €5 on the park’s official booking page and covers a 3-hectare botanical and ethnographic garden, not entry inside the Drago Milenario. For transport from the resorts, the West Tenerife: Icod, Garachico & Masca Scenic Route Tour is the most focused option: 5 hours, €67, 4.9 stars from 151 reviews. The ticket is not stated as included, so budget and time for it only after asking the operator.

What is behind the gate
The famous specimen remains the centrepiece, viewed at close range from paths in the ravine setting. The municipal description gives it at roughly 18 metres high, with a crown around 20 metres across. Its exact age is not known: Icod’s council gives an estimate of about 700 years with a possible error of 100 to 150 years, because a dragon tree does not make annual rings like a conventional tree. A ticket does not turn that estimate into a birthday.
The rest of the visit is why the charge can be worthwhile. The park arranges native Canary plants by vegetation zones, labels both scientific and common names, and includes a nursery of younger dragon trees. There is also a small volcanic cave with a reconstruction relating to a Guanche burial, a wine press, charcoal-making features and viewpoints towards the historic centre, Atlantic and Teide. It is a compact interpretation of the island’s plants and rural culture rather than a single-tree photo stop.
From the area around Plaza de Andrés de Lorenzo Cáceres you can see and photograph the Drago without entering. That free view is enough if your interest is the silhouette or your excursion allows only a short stop. Buy the park ticket when you want the lower viewpoints, plant labels and context; it is poor value if a coach is about to leave.
Tour stop or independent visit?
The 5-hour scenic route names Icod alongside Garachico and Masca and limits itself to the west. That gives it a better chance of a useful Icod stop than the 9-hour Teide, Masca, Icod & Garachico circuit, which starts at €58 and has 4.6 stars from 2,893 reviews but must divide the day among four headline stops. Neither short description promises admission.

Clear recommendation
If you are already in Icod, see the free view first and buy the official park ticket only if the botanical garden interests you. From the holiday coast, book the 5-hour west Tenerife route, then ask explicitly how much time Icod receives and whether you enter the park.
