La Gomera day trip from Tenerife: coach or jeep, and which one to book
Updated October 7, 2026 · 7 min read
The short answer: for most visitors the Guided Tour to La Gomera with Ferry and Lunch is the one to book — €110 per person, 4.3 stars from 618 reviews, ferry ticket, lunch and the Garajonay park entrance all in the price. Anyone who would rather sit in a jeep than on a coach should look at the Gomera Jeep Safari from Arona at €150 (4.7 stars, 569 reviews). If you are staying in the north, the Jeep Safari from Puerto de la Cruz is the one that starts where you are.

All four trips do the same basic thing: you cross from the south of Tenerife by ferry, spend most of the day in the island’s mountain interior and come back in the evening. So the choice is between ways of seeing the same forest and villages, not between different destinations.

What you actually see
The coach tours follow a similar route. The guided tour with ferry and lunch sails from Los Cristianos port to San Sebastián de La Gomera, drives through the Hermigua valley, stops at Agulo for a traditional Canarian lunch with a live demonstration of the whistled language Silbo Gomero, then goes into Garajonay National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) with a visit at Laguna Grande and a photo stop at the volcanic rock Roque de Agando. It finishes with free time in San Sebastián, where Columbus is said to have prayed before sailing west, and the ferry back.
The most-booked of the four day trips has the same shape — Roque de Agando, the El Cedro forest, Garajonay, lunch with the Silbo demonstration, San Sebastián and the church of La Asunción — in nine hours rather than ten. Its booking page describes a fast ferry. The page’s own review summary is mixed on one point: many travellers found the commentary on the coach hard to follow and repetitive, though the logistics, drivers and views get praise. That is the main reason I rank it second, not first, despite 2,195 reviews.
What the price covers
The guided tour lists the ferry ticket, hotel pickup in the south, an air-conditioned coach, a government-certified guide, the Garajonay park entrance, and a lunch with wine and water; a vegetarian lunch is offered. The guided commentary is in several languages depending on the group, and the page ties French, German and Russian to certain weekdays when you depart from the south, so check the day before you pay.
The other coach tour lists pickup and drop-off in the south, the fast ferry, lunch and a multilingual guide. It does not mention the park entrance.
The jeep safari from Arona lists the driver, the ferry and food. You meet at 8:20am at the free car park of the X-sur shopping centre in Costa Adeje, not at your hotel. Guides are listed in seven languages.

The jeep option is a different day
Why pay €40 more? Because on the jeep safari you travel in a 4x4 with a driver who explains each stop, instead of a full-size coach, and the rating (4.7) is the best of the four. Reviewers praise the guides by name and the food. One reviewer would have preferred fewer minutes in the port of San Sebastián on the way back and more photo stops.
If you are staying in the north
The Puerto de la Cruz jeep safari costs €165 and runs 13 hours. You meet at 7am at the operator’s office in Puerto de la Cruz, while the page says the ship leaves from the south of Tenerife. It lists “people with back problems” as not suitable. If you are based in Puerto de la Cruz and do not want to drive south at dawn, this is the only one that spares you that.

What the listings do not tell you
These are long days. The Garajonay forest and the villages are the point, but you spend a good part of the day on the coach and the ferry. The booking page for the guided tour says so itself. Bring an original ID card or passport — every one of the four requires it to board the ferry, and the jeep tour asks for it for children too. Take a light jacket. None of the pages gives a minimum age.
All four pages offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start. The guided tour adds that the order of stops can change and that a stop is dropped if weather, road closures or official alerts get in the way.
Who should skip it
Wheelchair users and people with mobility impairments: the guided tour says outright it is not suitable and does not allow mobility scooters or electric wheelchairs. Anyone who gets restless after five hours of sitting. Anyone who expects a beach day: these tours are forest, villages and viewpoints. For something calmer and shorter, a boat trip with the whales and dolphins between Tenerife and La Gomera is a lighter outing.
